No Longer Searching for Bobby Fischer...
  7-28-04
Because he's been caught. He was recently (like, today or something) apprehended in Japan by authorityies at the urging of the United States embassy, and he may be extradited to the USA to face trial and sentencing after evading American authorities for twelve years. His crime? He attended a chess tournament in Yugoslavia back in 1992. Yeah, that's it. This guy's hardly as exciting as, say, Roman Polanski, whom the French apparently stil have no intention of turning over (because they are jerks). Now, I'm not saying I've got a lot of sympathy for Fischer, because he won 3.3 million dollars at that tournament, which is exactly 3.3 million dollars more than I've ever won at a chess tournament, but still, the fact that he's facing up to ten years in prison for playing a boring game against a Communist in a shitty East European country seems a might ridiculous. Maybe it's just me.
